Dear Kudej Community Member,
Desi Hallikar Cow Ghee
The Hallikar cow is a distinct breed of Karnataka. We travel hundreds of kilometers onto the Kaveri riverbanks to meet these slim trim cows. In the serene Karnataka forest villages, traditional farmer communities have been breeding Hallikar cows for hundreds of years with the best of sustainable processes. For them, the cow isn’t a commodity, rather a community member.
Desi Kankrej Cow Ghee
The Kankrej cow is a famous cattle breed of Kutch. Traditional cowherd/pastoral communities also called the Maldhari community, have been overcoming challenges to care for Kankrej cows for hundreds of years with the best of sustainable processes. They practice age-old methods of cow keeping; hand milking, untied open grazing, natural mating, cruelty-free care and celebrate festivals to glorify the presence of cows in our lives.
The use of turmeric, also known as Haridra, dates back nearly 4000 years to the ancient times in India, where it was used as a culinary spice and medicinal herb. Curcumin is a component present in turmeric that gives turmeric its bright yellow color with incredible medicinal properties.
We travel hundreds of kilometers in Meghalaya, North East India where farmers take special attention to use only age-old traditional methods and specialize in turmeric cultivation. The only inputs from nature are sun, rains, organic manure and care.
